Amuzgo is a tonal language with a strong monosyllabic tendency, much like Chinese language Chinese or Vietnamese language Vietnamese. Amuzgo has about 30,000 speakers and according to Ethnologue it has three dialects. The dialect in the village of San Pedro Amuzgos has 8 tones. The name Amuzgo is apparently Nahuatl in origin.
