Wikimedia Foundation, and a prominent member of the general
wiki community.
Born in
Norwich,
England, Beesley was formerly an
educational researcher and
test (student assessment) test developer, living in
Slough. She received a
Bachelor of Science degree in
Human Psychology from
Aston University in 2000.
She was elected onto the Board of
Trustees of the non-profit
Wikimedia Foundation in 2004 and re-elected in 2005. She is also the
vice-president of
Wikia, Inc., a for-profit company which manages
Wikia, a wiki hosting service which she co-founded in 2004 with
Jimmy Wales. She sits on the advisory board of the newly launched media archive
Ourmedia.
She will speak at the 2006
WikiSym, a conference regarding wikis.
