Chad was divided into between
1960 and
1999. Since
2002 it is one of the 18 regions into which the country is divided. Its name is often abbreviated to '''BET'''.
Located in the north of the country, adjacent to
Libya and bordered also by
Niger and
Sudan, Bourkou-Ennedi-Tibesti covers an area of 600,350 square kilometers, almost half the country. It has a population of 73,185 (as of
1993), partly nomadic and also in scattered small towns and other settlements. Its capital is
Faya.
The three parts of the BET are:-
*Bourkou, capital
Faya-Largeau
*Ennedi, capital
Fada
*Tibesti, capital
Bardaï
Geography: Bourkou-Ennedi-Tibesti is located in the middle of the
Sahara desert and contains diverse topography, ranging from the volcanic
Tibesti Mountains to the Bodele Depression, a vast
Holocene lakebed that is one of the Earth's strongest
dust storm producing regions. Overall, the territory is extremely arid.
