The metropolitan borough has City status in the United Kingdom City status. Its main town is Salford. Other places include Swinton, Greater Manchester Swinton (where the City council is now located), Eccles, Greater Manchester Eccles, Pendlebury, Broughton, Pendleton, Worsley, Walkden, Irlam, Cadishead, Wardley, Monton, Barton, Salford, Greater Manchester Barton and Boothstown. The metropolitan borough is divided into five formal districts: Salford, Eccles, Worsley, Irlam & Cadishead, and Swinton & Pendlebury. Image:Salford11.JPG thumb|left|Salford skyline The modern day City of Salford incorporates the former County Borough of Salford (including Pendleton, Langworthy, Broughton, Weaste, Ordsall and Seedley), the Borough of Eccles (including Monton, Winton and Barton-upon-Irwell), the Borough of Swinton and Pendlebury, the Urban District of Irlam and the Urban District of Worsley (including Walkden). The City is bounded to the north by Bury and Bolton, to the south by Trafford, to the west by Wigan and to the east by Manchester. It has a university by the side of the River Irwell called Salford University The University of Salford. The river divides the centre of Salford from the Manchester City Centre centre of Manchester.
