The show starred Elliott Gould as emergency room doctor Howard Sheinfeld. His colleague Eve Sheridan was played by Marcia Strassman in the pilot, and Mary McDonnell in the regular series. The cast also included Conchata Ferrell, Jason Alexander, Lynne Moody and George Clooney (who became a star of the drama ''ER'').
The show itself was perhaps most noted for having a theme song deemed "catchy" and for the Filipino-American secretary (played by Shuko Akune)'s manner of stating her catchphrase "stay back of the white line." It was Jason Alexander's first TV series.
