'''Germantown''' is a city located in
Shelby County, Tennessee. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 37,348.
Germantown is best known as a
suburb of
Memphis, Tennessee Memphis,
Tennessee. Bordering Memphis to the east, Germantown is a quiet town of streets lined with mature hardwood trees, and often stately homes. There is practically no industry in Germantown, but the city is home to significant, often high-end, retail. In the city center is the Old Town Germantown neighborhood, anchored by a depot (a 1948 reproduction of the 1868 original) and railroad tracks that recall the community's earliest days of development as an outpost along the Memphis-Charleston Railroad.
Germantown is also well known for its Cheerleading industry, hosting over 20 squads that are nationally ranked.
Annual events in Germantown include the Germantown Festival, and the Germantown Charity Horse Show which lures equestrians from all over the country.

United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 45.6

square mile mi²). 45.5 km² (17.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.17% water.
Demographics

The average household size was 2.82 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the city the population was spread out with 28.0% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 23.5% from 25 to 44, 33.5% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 95.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $94,609, and the median income for a family was $103,726. Males had a median income of $77,857 versus $38,311 for females. The
per capita income for the city was $44,021. 2.1% of the population and 1.6% of families were below the
poverty line. 2.0% of those under the age of 18 and 1.3% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
