As of the Ichinoseki, Iwate Ichinoseki merger the district consists of the single town of Fujisawa, Iwate Fujisawa. As of this merger but with 2003 population statistics, the district has an estimated population of 10,054 and a population density density of 81.64 persons per square kilometer km². The total area is 123.15 km².

On September 20, 2005 , the towns of Daito, Iwate Daito, Higashiyama, Iwate Higashiyama, and Senmaya, Iwate Senmaya, and the villages of Kawasaki, Iwate Kawasaki and Murone, Iwate Murone merged with a town from Nishiiwai District, Iwate Nishiiwai District into the expanded city of Ichinoseki, Iwate Ichinoseki.
