'''Ki-Adi-Mundi''' (92 - 19
BBY) is a fictional character from the
Star Wars fictional universe universe.
History
{{spoiler}}
Ki-Adi-Mundi was a wise
Jedi Master and
Jedi Council member at the time of the
Clone Wars. Notably, he was invited into the Council after the fall of Master

Mace Windu who was not keen on the other candidate being considered at that time, namely Master
Qui-Gon Jinn. Hailing from the planet
List of Star Wars planets (C-D)#Cerea Cerea, he survived the
Battle of Geonosis, fighting alongside other such luminaries as
Yoda and
Mace Windu.
Master Ki-Adi was once the apprentice of the enigmatic Jedi master known as the
The Dark Woman Dark Woman, but he later came under the tutelage of
Yoda. For a brief time during the
Clone Wars, Ki-Adi Mundi took over as
Anakin Skywalker's master when
Obi-Wan Kenobi was presumed dead after the
Battle of Jabiim.
Ki-Adi Mundi was part of a Jedi strike force (group consisting of Master

General Grievous then made his introduction by attacking the Jedi. Despite the fact that the Jedi outnumbered Grievous, they barely fended off his attacks. Ki-Adi Mundi,

Like all
List of Star Wars races#Cerean Cereans, his binary brain made him extremely logical and insightful, and allowed him to uniquely weigh decisions involving matters of
the Force, both light and dark. Also characteristic of his species, his coordination was somewhat impaired, but compensated for by heightened intuition.
In the EU series, Ki Adi Mundi was regarded as a Jedi of remarkable skills and power. In the Dark Horse Comic Outlander, Ki Adi Mundi is summoned by the Jedi Council to investigate if Sharad Hett a Jedi assumed to be dead, was indeed alive. The Jedi Council believed that Sharad Hett was alive in Tattoine and was the leader of Tusken Riders' tribe. Sharad Hett was described by members of the Council as the most fearless and dedicated knight of his age.
The information concerning the reappearance of Sharad Hett arise nearly after the killing of Qui Gon Jinn by the Sith Lord Darth Maul, so the Council deemed very important to find out if Hett was still alive since he could either be of great help to the Republic in the developing crisis, but if he was embracing the dark side he would be a powerful weapon in the hands of the Sith Lords.
At the time of his appointment in dealing with Hett, Ki Adi Mundi asked why he was chosen for the task and no other member of the Order. Yoda replied to him: “Of all living Jedi, have you only the skills to defeat Shared Hett. As others members of the Council could be sent to find Hett, Yoda also chose Ki Adi Mundi because he was not acquainted with him personally and no personal feelings could arose that may impair his judgment if the killing of Hett was needed.
The statement by Yoda seems a bit exaggerated in light that other Jedi Masters like Mace Windu and Yoda himself were regarded as the most powerful Jedi alive, though it serves to support the notion that Ki Adi Mundi was indeed one of the top Jedi at that time in terms of skills and power, second perhaps to those and Count Dooku.

In his two hearts a Jedi, the brave Ki-Adi Mundi was killed by his
clone troopers while he was in command at the planet
Mygeeto when
Great Jedi Purge Order 66 was executed. He reacted quickly, blocking a few shots and killing some troopers. But, in the end, he was overpowered by the troopers' repeating blasters.
Trivia
*Other than the major characters (
Qui-Gon,
Anakin Skywalker Anakin,
Obi-Wan,
Yoda and
Mace Windu Mace), Ki-Adi is the only Jedi in the prequel films who actually speaks. Although
List of minor Star Wars Jedi masters#Ti, Shaak Shaak Ti did utter one short line in her deleted death scene on the ''
Episode III'' DVD, this event is deemed non-canonical as she appears later in the finished film. Thus Ki-Adi remains the only speaking Jedi that is not a primary character.
*According to ''The Art of Star Wars Episode I'', the design of this powerful
Jedi character was a reinterpretation of the elder
Obi-Wan Kenobi fitted with whale-like characteristics.
*Although no official retraction has been made, the specific point that Ki-Adi was only a Knight at the time of his election into the High Council must now be deemed apocryphal. This is in light of ''Episode III'''s unambiguous statement that no Jedi has ever been elected into the Council without first being a master "in the [entire] history of the Jedi Order".
**NOTE: The comment made by Anakin could have been rashly exaggerating the unusualness of this refusal by the council due to Anakin's frustration with the their decision.
This is an excellent example of
Star Wars canon ''Star Wars''' official system of tiered canonicity at work, whereby all EU content is deemed canonical ''provided'' that it does not contradict any content from the films themselves, in which case the relevant material is automatically decanonised. To this end, the StarWars.com Databank file on Ki-Adi now features a revised EU entry which attempts to smooth over the apparent discrepancy. *Most regard his name's similarity to that of the Brazilian mammal
coatimundi to be a coincidence.
*Ki was a knight until 22 B.B.Y. Because of his success had the Battle Of Geonosis, he was promoted.
*In the video game,
Lego Star Wars: The Video Game Lego Star Wars, you can buy Ki-Adi in Dexter's Diner, which allows you to play as a
Lego version of him (with a typically long head) in certain areas of the game. He makes a more substantial appearance in
Star Wars Battlefront II where players can contol him for a brief period as he and a battalion of Clone Troopers fight their way to a power source in Mygeeto. This is not the scene where he is killed but is presumably close to that event.
