Its council is based in the city of Lichfield. The dignity and privileges of the List of cities in the United Kingdom City of Lichfield are vested in its town council (a civil parish) (which is therefore known as ''Lichfield City Council'', and covers only 14 km²), and not the District Council which covers nearly 25 times this area.
