'''Mino''' (美濃国; -no kuni) is an
old provinces of Japan old province of Japan, which today composes nearly the southern part of
Gifu prefecture. Mino bordered on
Echizen province Echizen,
Hida province Hida,
Ise province Ise,
Mikawa province Mikawa,
Omi province Omi,
Owari province Owari, and
Shinano provinces.
Although the ancient provincial capital was near
Tarui, Gifu Tarui, the main castle town was at
Gifu, Gifu Gifu. Mino was one of the original provinces controlled by
Oda Nobunaga, and his heirs controlled it even after Nobunaga died and
Toyotomi Hideyoshi took power.
The
Battle of Sekigahara took place at the western edge of Mino, near the mountains between the
Chuubu region and the
Kinki region.
