The city is home to the
University of Minnesota system's
University of Minnesota, Morris Morris campus. In
1975, the city was also the site of the largest
earthquake of the last century in the state, rated at between 4.6 and 4.8 in
Richter scale magnitude.

United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.8

square mile mi²). 11.1 km² (4.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.51% water.

The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 2.84.
In the city the population was spread out with 16.7% under the age of 18, 34.2% from 18 to 24, 19.0% from 25 to 44, 13.9% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
