'''Nanjangud''' is a small town in
India on the banks of the
Kabini river, some 23 km from
Mysore. It is also called as "Dakshina Kashi" (southern
Kashi).
Nanjangud, a popular temple town, is in Mysore district and is 26 km south to Mysore city. The Sree Srikanteswara temple is a big old temple and the God is known as Hakim Nanjundeswara—a title given by the Great Tippu Sultan who had faith in the God. It is said and inscribed in the temple history that his favourite and loved pattada elephant was bestowed with eyesight by Lord, after Tippu Sultan's vow with the local deity. The vaidya Nanjundeswara, even today is the healer for the believers, and you can see even today bhaktas doing Urulu seve etc. after taking bath in the Kapila river.
The town is also famous for the Ayurveda medicines of Late Sri. B.V.Pandit. The Sadvaidyashala established by him serves people very successfully.
