A '''reversed map''', also known as an '''Upside-Down map''' or '''South-Up map''', is a world map that generally shows Australia and New Zealand at the top of the map instead of the bottom. They are popular in Australia, New Zealand and other southern hemisphere countries for obvious reasons. They are also becoming popular in other parts of the world as tools for teaching critical thinking. Indonesia is placed in the center while Europe and the Americas are placed to the sides. One example of such map was supposed to impress on citizens of the United States the significance and diversity of Latin America.
A similar idea was used in making a road map for residents of New York City who wanted to get to their vacation in Florida by driving, because the relative location of side trips on the way, using a "normal" map is reversed left-to-right.
