Salford Central railway station

*** Shopping-Tip: Salford Central railway station

{{inappropriate tone}} '''Salford Central railway station''' lies just to the west of Manchester city centre, across the River Irwell so therefore in the City of Salford. Most trains run through to Merseyside and Salford Crescent railway station Salford Crescent and to the West of Manchester through from Manchester Victoria. The Famous Five Star Lowry Hotel is just across from the station. From 2005 Salford Central is linked to Manchester City Centre by LINE3 of the Free Metroshuttle Bus system. Salford Central station is nowhere near the centre of Salford. It is barely over the Manchester/Salford border and by most would just be assumed as being another Manchester city centre railway station. It serves some areas of the west of Deansgate Manchester but is one of Manchester City's subordinate Rail stations. Salford Cresent is the busier of the Salford Stations as it serves the university of Salford and is also positioned where the Victoria and Picadilly lines meet towards Bolton. It is also just a short walk from the (shopping) centre of Salford. There was another Salford station at Pendleton (Just a few minutes on from Salford Cresent) but it burnt down in the late 90s, the powers that be decided to close the station rather than restore it. Users of the station say the damage from the fire didn't merit it's closure. Salford Central itself was reduced in size in 2000. There were four platforms. Two had stopped being used so a fence was put up across the central platform (2 and 3) to close access to the other areas. Salford Central also closes early. Whilst trains run through Salford Central until past midnight the station use to close at around 7pm. They have slightly extended opening hours now but the gates still close before 8pm. A rather annoying feature of Salford Central is the screeching noise some trains make whilst going around the corner on the Victoria side entrance to the station. It can be quite harsh on the ears! {{rail start}} {{rail line|previous=Salford Crescent railway station Salford Crescent|next=Manchester Victoria railway station Manchester Victoria|route=Northern Rail
