Beta should not be confused with esszet (ß), a similar-looking but unrelated letter in German language orthography. The Modern Greek name of the letter is {{IPA|/ˈviˑta/}}. The American pronunciation is {{IPA|/ˈbeɪtə/}} whereas the British pronunciation is {{IPA|/ˈbiːtə/}}.
